David had sinned.  He confessed his sin to the prophet Nathan.  The prophet then gave David the best news--that the Lord God had put away David's sin, that his sin was forgiven.  We hear the same Good News as our pastor forgives our sin in the stead of Jesus Christ Himself, the same Jesus who died on the cross for our forgiveness.
