Events & News | BAPTISMS

The Bible teaches and Lutherans believe that:

  • Jesus instituted baptism as a means of grace.
  • Water may be applied by sprinkling, pouring or immersing.
  • Any believer can perform or authorize a Baptism.
  • God’s promise of forgiveness is the power in baptism.
  • Children also need to be reborn in baptism.
  • Baptismal blessing are rejected when a person refuses to trust Christ.
  • The power of baptism comes not from the water, but from the promise of God.
  • Every Baptized believer has received the Holy Spirit.

Who instituted Baptism?

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

What does it mean to “baptize”?

Mark 7:4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.
