So you want to get married? Congratulations! Marriage is a great institution founded by God Himself to bless His people. Jesus quoted the instruction of God to the first couple, Adam and Eve, when He said, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” We believe and practice that marriage is a joyful estate instituted by God between one man and one woman and recognized by our society through legal registration.
The main purpose of God’s Church in this circumstance is to nurture marriages. The ceremony of the wedding is secondary to this purpose. We want you to have a joyful, fruitful, and committed relationship together. To that end we ask that those who desire to be married here:
Have a ministry relationship with us. We do not require membership but urge that you consider taking the “Come to the Cross” Class and become members.
Participate in at least six (6) pre-marriage counseling sessions,
Plan their wedding for at least 4 months in advance. That means that you should not plan to be married until 4 months after you begin the process.
Marriage is a big decision. Weddings are big events. Should you have a question or concern about any of the items in our manual, please feel free to talk with the Pastor or the Wedding Coordinator. In addition, the Pastor reserves the right to refuse to conduct the ceremony should he feel that the union is unwise or against Scripture.
Our Wedding Coordinator
The Coordinator assists with all aspects of the wedding, including the rehearsal. The Coordinator helps plan for all services associated with the wedding and reception, and the associated fees.
The Pastor of Our Saviour Lutheran Church officiates at weddings. Should you desire another clergy person to assist, arrangements may be discussed with the Pastor. Pastors should be clergy in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Scheduling a Wedding
Contact the church office, 913-236-6228, for scheduling. The church office or the Wedding Coordinator will not accept your Reservation Fee until the wedding date has been confirmed by the Pastor. Your wedding date is reserved once your checks for all wedding personnel (Wedding Coordinator, musician, and janitor) have been received. Our Office Manager will assist you regarding to whom the checks should be addressed. These fees are nonrefundable.
You should note that Our Saviour has a regular Saturday worship service at 5:30 p.m., therefore Saturday weddings must begin by 3:00 p.m. or after 7:00 p.m. This is a working church. Should unscheduled events occur (funerals, inclement weather, building systems malfunction or failure, etc.) adjustment of the wedding reservation and/or schedule may be required. The church will do its utmost to insure these adjustments are reasonable and notification is timely.
